Book Review: HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD by Sarah J. Maas

Title: House of Earth and Blood
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Genre: Adult Fantasy

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss's enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom-and the power of love.

Maas is a master of writing fantasy, it's no surprise. Having loved her since I first read the Throne of Glass series, years ago...my love has only ever grown for her. She's one of those authors that never disappoints for me. With both of her series finished, I was itching to see what she was going to write next. She's like the fantasy queen of writing for me.

When I first heard about House of Earth and Blood, I was immediately counting the days down until I could devour this book. And plus I knew this series was going to be adult fantasy, I was bracing for all the delicious scenes she writes, that I can never get enough of.

House of Earth and Blood is such a complex story. Filled with pain, loss, hope, power, love, and so much more. It's set in a world where everything is real and anything can happen. Bryce is a party girl. She's half fae and in this world, she might as well be full human. She's living her life, drinking every drink known to man, taking ever drug, and simply doing whatever she wants. But that changes when her best friend is murdered, in such a gruesome way.

Bryce gets recruited by the local "Police" force, which is operated by archangels to find the murder with the help of a fallen angel named Hunt. And gahh... he's a delicious character. He's tortured from his past and his present. The last thing he wants to do is babysit from party girl but he has no choice. Hunt definitely became one of my all time favorites and I look forward to reading more about him in the books to come.

These two embark on a journey that will unfold some scary truths and one that Bryce might not even want to admit. And the closer they get to finding out the truth, the closer her and Hunt get, and the more murders that happen. This book is a journey that will have you holding your breathe until the very last page.

The characters are interesting and so fun to read. I really connected with a bunch of them and I can't wait to see where she takes these characters with each book.
