Review: Stargirl

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

5 out of 5 stars

This was an extraordinary book! Stargirl landed on my TBR unexpectedly at a good friend’s recommendation and I was swept off my feet by it. There is a lesson to be learned in this book.
Stargirl is what we should all strive to be in life and what we should teach our children. She is an example of how to live a happy life and make everyone else happy in the process. Being selfless, caring, respectful, giving, loving and most important of all being yourself no matter what.
Stargirl just wants to be herself and live life to the fullest, she wants to make others happy and she doesn’t want to judge or be judged, she wants to be accepted but also didn’t understand the weird ways of society and it was a hard pill to swallow to realize that sometimes to be accepted others expect you to change who you are and sometimes even when you do it’s still not enough…
So do you betray yourself in order to become what others think you should be? There will always be people that think you are weird, unconventional, nerdy, you name it! The key is finding happiness by accepting who you are and in appreciating the tiny things in life, sometimes we spend too much time worrying about the big picture that we forget to enjoy those every day things that will surely put a smile on our faces.
We should all, like Stargirl did, try to keep as many pebbles in our happy wagon as possible and realize that sometimes your own happiness is found when making others happy.
It was an inspirational story that had me hooked from page one, it makes you think, it makes you question and it makes you want to be better, it makes you want to be as free as Stargirl was.
