Quick Reads Review: Stir Me Up

Stir Me Up by Sabrina Elkins: Quick Reads Review

I had the awesome privilege of getting to read this ARC of a little book called Stir Me Up by Sabrina Elkins. Let me just tell you... Move over Nicholas Sparks because you ain't got nothin' on Sabrina Elkins. This story takes the reader through an unbelievable circumstance, pulls them out of it, pushes them through the mud (hehe that's an inside joke), and then makes them feel clean and refreshed. I generally am not a humango fan of love stories.. I mean, I like them. But I like them with like.. paranormal things, things that can't ever really happen. THIS COULD HAPPEN. I'm also really picky about reads with marines in them. Why? I'm a proud little sister of a U.S. Marine and we don't take kindly to things being portrayed wrong.

Elkins does an amazing job at creating her characters, at leading the reader through the story at just the right pace, and at making your heart feel like it couldn't quite grow any bigger - and then it does. I also highly applaud Elkins for not sticking to that YA groove. This is a love story, about a teenager. We all KNOW most teenagers have sex but it seems like a lot of authors are scared to go there. Elkins pushes the envelope and it pays off. This book is all about growing up, making tough choices, and doing what's right for you - in the face of everything that could go wrong! Read it. Trust me.  You'll love it. 5 stars. Oooooooraaaah. (that's a Marine battle cry for you.)

(((I have to put it somewhere so: Mature readers 16 and up only, please)))

Synopsis:
Cami Broussard has her future all figured out. She'll finish her senior year of high school, then go to work full-time as an apprentice chef in her father's French restaurant, alongside her boyfriend, Luke. But then twenty-year-old ex-Marine Julian Wyatt comes to live with Cami's family while recovering from serious injuries. And suddenly Cami finds herself questioning everything she thought she wanted.
my brother's groom cake.
Yep, that's him.

Julian's all attitude, challenges and intense green-brown eyes. But beneath that abrasive exterior is a man who just might be as lost as Cami's starting to feel. And Cami can't stop thinking about him. Talking to him. Wanting to kiss him. He's got her seriously stirred up. Her senior year has just gotten a lot more complicated…
