“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey's life is at a standstill. She's in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It's absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he's a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he's brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he's brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as ----. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

"My guardian angel is a drunk."

This. Book.
Everything that has even been written by Renée Carlino I'm always waiting to get my greedy hands on and this one was no different. Though I can admit I was a little skeptical at first just because I absolutely am a die hard fan of her romance novels, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with Lucian Divine but let me tell you this book did not disappoint. And man does it pack on the romance in such a beautiful, heart-felt way.

I've always loved angel books whether it had to do with guardian angels or fallen angels I've always loved reading about them and that's what first drew me to this book, besides it being by Carlino. I love how different this book was. Though it may be about angels, the whole concept of the story is so different I found myself so lost in this world of angels and humans or as the book calls them...souls.

Lucian is a guardian angel, a drunk guardian angel but he's always been pretty good at his job. Maybe a little bit rebellious...okay a lot rebellious but he knows what he's doing. That's until he's assigned to watch over Evelyn Casey. He's watched over her since she was born but the older that she gets he starts to grow feelings for her. And falling for your soul is a big no no. But he can't stop the feelings from growing. Lucian isn't supposed to even have these feelings...but he's growing them.

"I'm on the other side of life, Evey, existing where death belongs and yearning to be with you. Yearning in brief moments to bring you here, into the darkness."

Evey is trying to get her life on track. Though she has her foot into the fashion world, she has a crappy job. And can't stand her boss. And men, might as well forget them. They always pick her roommate or want nothing but a one night stand and she can't help but want a little more.
That is until one night on a date that she thinks that is going well she sees him sitting in the corner of the bar. He's too beautiful to be real. Evey finds herself drawn to him but isn't sure why. Something about him is so familiar but so unfamiliar at the same time.

Evey and Lucian are thrown through so many loops in this book that will rip your heart right out and heal it at the same time.
These two find themselves thrown into an impossible situation in an unforgivable world.
