For those who know me as Kelly Hashway, you’re well aware that I write just about everything under the sun. Okay, not everything. But I do write picture books, middle grade fantasy adventure, and young adult paranormal. So why did I decide to branch out and write romance under the name Ashelyn Drake?
Simple. Who doesn’t love love? You know that feeling of first laying eyes on someone and sensing something good is about to happen? Yes, I’m aware that’s not love—unless you believe in love at first sight. I’ve never experienced that though. I have experienced the kind of love that makes the rest of the world fall away so it’s just you and the person you’re in love with in that moment in time. I’ve also experienced heartbreak and how difficult relationships can be. And what I’ve learned is that love can be all consuming. It can be the best feeling in the world. But you have to work at it. It doesn’t come easily, but what thing that’s worth fighting for actually does, right?
The problem with love is that once you experience that first look, that first touch, that first kiss, you can’t get it back. Unless...you’re a writer or reader who can relive the experience over and over again in books.
So why do I write about love? Because it allows me to fall in love again with each book and cheer on my characters as they try to find their happily ever afters.
