Author Spotlight: Colleen Hoover

A chat with Colleen Hoover goes like this...

Colleen Hoover is a NYT bestselling author of some pretty epic love stories. I know you guys had a ton of questions for her, and I got to as many as I could! If you're new to Colleen Hoover, you can check her out at her website, and as a perk to this post (totally unplanned) you can buy Slammed for $2.99 on kindle right now! What I took away? Colleen Hoover is just like us. SHE LOVES AUGUSTUS WATERS AS MUCH AS WE DO! Enjoy this peek into the mind that created Dean Holder
Colleen Hoover
Amber: Many people know about the Hopeless books, but you've also written several other books, both stand alone and series. What's your favorite book to date that you've written? (I know, like asking who your favorite kid is, right?)

--Colleen: Yes, it really is like asking which kid is my favorite, haha. I can easily say Finding Cinderella was the most fun for me to write. However, I think there are two main reasons for this. One is because it's a shorter, lighter read, so there was less involved in the writing process. The other is because it wasn't expected by anyone, owed to anyone, sold to a publisher, nothing. It was just a little side project I did for fun, so there wasn't any pressure for it to be good or meet people's expectations.

Amber:  What's your writing process like? Do you have certain music you have to have playing or lock yourself away in a writing cave?

--Colleen: I have to have absolute silence and a Diet Pepsi by my side.
(Check out this instagram video for proof behind the answer.)

Amber: @jerilynjerjer asks about Hopeless: Did Holder ever ask Sky to marry him, and if so, how did he do it? Does Sky ever tell Six about her past?

--Colleen: I plan on writing one more installment about the Hopeless cast, so I better not answer these questions before I do that :)

Let's pause right here for a moment while I squeal in delight. MORE HOLDER? YES PLEASE.

Amber: @anna_glaze1 asks: How long did it take you to write Hopeless

--Colleen: About two months I think.

Amber: What are you most excited about for your career in 2014?

--Colleen: I'm really excited for the release of Maybe Someday and to see readers' reactions to it.

Amber: Many followers asked: How did you know you want to be a writer? What led you down that path?

--Colleen: I've always loved writing. I wrote my first story when I was 5 years old. I just never thought I'd be able to do it for a living. I originally studied Journalism in college, but I had kids and a husband and I just didn't have the extra time needed to focus on a career in Journalism, so I switched to Social Work and put my dreams of writing on the back burner until I wrote Slammed.

Amber: Can you tell us what inspired you to do a giveaway everyday in 2014? (Readers: You can find more info about her everyday giveaway at colleenhoover.com

--Colleen: You! My readers! I love doing giveaways and now I have an excuse to do one every single day… because I already said I would :)

Amber: Tell us something that's on your bookshelf that people may be surprised to find there.

--Colleen: I have a TON of books on my bookshelves given to me by other authors, but I'm not sure any of them would surprise anyone. I do have a signed copy of The Fault in our Stars, which is pretty cool.

Amber: You have been picked as tribute in the hunger games, the twist. You can choose to take any one item  you choose into the arena. What do you choose?

--Colleen: Well this is just too obvious: Diet Pepsi.

This interview brought to you by Diet Pepsi. Not really though.
